Carolina Holiday Light Spectacular was created by three friends who grew up in Charlotte — and wanted to bring something magical home. Carolina Holiday Light Spectacular is Charlotte's favorite Christmas light show — a walk-through experience featuring over one million lights, Magic Snowflake Wands, live entertainment, and Santa's Private Workshop at Ballantyne's Backyard.
Three friends who grew up in Charlotte eventually went their different ways — but Charlotte was still home, still the community that shaped them.
Years later, they came back together with one idea: create something magical for the place where they grew up.
Not simply another Christmas event. Something families could experience together, something children would remember, something that might become part of another family’s Christmas story. That idea became Holiday Light Spectacular in 2022.

Every scene you walk through. Every light installation that stops you in your tracks. Every detail that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. That’s Cheri.
From Santa’s Castle to the Cocoa Huts, the Ice Castle to Dickens Village, Elf Land to Under the Sea — and every inch of the Snow Globe interiors — Cheri designed it, commissioned it, and breathed life into it. More than half of the light creations at Carolina Holiday Light Spectacular are one-of-a-kind pieces designed and commissioned exclusively by her.
She didn’t just decorate a light show. She built a world. Every scene has a story. Every corner has intention. Every magical moment you experience was placed there — deliberately, lovingly — by her hand.
There is not a single area of this show that did not evolve from her vision.

From the beginning, we've believed the most memorable experiences aren't necessarily the things you see.
They're the things you feel.
It's the look on a child's face when something suddenly comes alive. It's laughing together over hot chocolate. It's discovering something unexpected around the next corner. It's watching someone you love experience a little Christmas magic.
Those are the moments we want to create.

That's why Holiday Light Spectacular has continued to grow beyond a display of beautiful lights into a place filled with experiences, entertainment, traditions, and opportunities to participate in the magic.
The community that surrounds Holiday Light Spectacular has always been part of its story.
Each season, local Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other volunteers roll up their sleeves and help us bring parts of the Spectacular to life — including helping set up and fluff the thousands of branches that transform into our illuminated forest.
There's something pretty wonderful about that. The forest families eventually walk through was helped into existence by people from the very community coming to experience it.
In a very real way, this community helps build the magic.
Giving back has become an important part of Holiday Light Spectacular. Our primary charitable partner is Spirit of Hope Children's Foundation — a 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting children and adults with mental or physical disabilities.
Throughout the season, we also host dedicated nights for other foundations and partner with nonprofit organizations, schools, community groups and other causes through special promotional codes and fundraising partnerships.
When guests purchase tickets using participating organizations' promotional codes, a portion of those ticket proceeds goes back to support their work.
The Spirit of Hope Children’s Foundation is a 501(c)(3) supporting children and adults with mental or physical disabilities. Holiday Light Spectacular makes Spirit of Hope a central part of what we give back each season.
We've dedicated special nights to the Isabella Santos Foundation and their fight against childhood cancer — doing meaningful work throughout the Charlotte region and beyond.
We've been honored to host a dedicated night supporting the Bradley & Nicky Boseman Foundation — celebrating a Charlotte-area athlete and the meaningful work this foundation carries forward.
